How to use the online teleprompter
- Paste your script into the box. It is saved in this browser so it is still there next time.
- Set the speed in words per minute. Most people speak at 130 to 160 words per minute on a call. The reading time updates as you type.
- Put this window right under your camera. The reading line sits near the top of the screen so your eyes stay close to the lens.
- Press Start or the space bar. Use the arrow keys to speed up or slow down while you read.
Read without looking like you are reading
- Shrink the window and drag it to the top of your screen, right below the webcam. The closer the text is to the lens, the more it looks like eye contact.
- Use short lines. Make the text bigger so each line has fewer words and your eyes move less.
- Show my camera puts your own video behind the text, so you can check your framing while you rehearse.
- Using a glass teleprompter or beam splitter? Turn on Mirror text so it reads correctly in the reflection.
Teleprompter questions
How do I use a teleprompter on Zoom?
Open this page in a small window and drag it to the top of your screen, just under your webcam. Start the scroll, then share your camera in Zoom as usual. People see you looking near the lens, not down at notes.
What speed should a teleprompter be?
Start at about 140 words per minute, which is a relaxed speaking pace. Go faster for energetic videos and slower for presentations or when speaking a second language.
Is my script saved or uploaded?
Your script is saved only in this browser on this device, so it is there when you come back. It is never uploaded.
Does it work on a phone or tablet?
Yes. Hold the phone upright near the camera, tap the text to start and pause, and use the sliders for speed and size.
