Speaker not working? Quick fixes
- Check the output device. Your computer may be sending sound to a monitor, headset or Bluetooth device. Windows: Settings > System > Sound > Output. Mac: System Settings > Sound > Output.
- Left and right swapped? Swap the speaker cables, or check a balance setting in your sound settings.
- No bass? Laptop and phone speakers can't play 60 Hz well. That is normal. Try headphones.
- Can't hear the 10 kHz tone? High frequencies fade with age, and many people over 40 can't hear above 14–15 kHz.
Speaker test questions
How do I test my speakers?
Press Left, Both and Right. The sound should come only from that side. Then press Bass and Treble to hear the range your speakers can play.
Why do I only hear sound from one speaker?
A cable may be loose, the balance may be set to one side, or the content may be mono. Check the cable and your system balance setting.
What frequencies can humans hear?
About 20 Hz to 20 kHz for young people. The upper limit drops with age. Use the sweep to find where you stop hearing it.
