How to check your camera inside Microsoft Teams
- Open device settings. In Teams, select Settings and more (…) > Settings > Devices. The Camera section shows a preview.
- Pick your camera. Choose the right camera from the list if you have more than one, such as a laptop camera and a USB webcam.
- Check the join screen. Before you join a meeting, Teams shows your video with buttons for camera, background effects and audio. Look at your framing here too.
- Know how tiles crop. Teams fills each tile, which can trim the edges of your picture. Others can choose Fit to frame on your video to see all of it, but most people don't.
- Make a test call. Settings > Devices > Make a test call checks your mic and speaker and plays your recording back.
Microsoft Teams camera questions
How do I test my camera in Microsoft Teams?
Go to Settings > Devices in Teams to see a camera preview, or use this page to see your picture cropped to a Teams tile with lighting and framing checks. The Teams join screen also shows your video before you enter a meeting.
Why is my camera not working in Teams?
Quit other apps that use the camera, make sure Teams has camera access in your system privacy settings, and select the right camera in Settings > Devices. If this page can see your camera but Teams cannot, the problem is Teams' permission or settings.
Does Teams mirror my video to other people?
No. Your self-view in Teams is mirrored so it feels natural, but other people see you unmirrored. Turn off Mirror self-view on this page to see what they see.
Why is my face cut off in Teams?
Teams fills each video tile, so the edges of your picture can be trimmed, especially in large meetings or on phones. Sit in the middle of the frame and leave a little space above your head.
What camera resolution does Teams use?
Teams adjusts quality to your connection and the meeting layout. A 720p (HD) webcam is enough for most meetings. Better lighting improves the picture more than a higher resolution.
