If your camera doesn't work on a Mac
- Allow your browser to use the camera. Open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera and turn on your browser (Safari, Chrome, Edge or Firefox). Quit and reopen the browser after changing it.
- Allow this website. In Safari, choose Safari > Settings for This Website > Camera > Allow. In Chrome, click the icon left of the address and set Camera to Allow.
- Close other apps. Quit FaceTime, Photo Booth, Zoom and Teams, then reload this page.
- Use Continuity Camera. With macOS Ventura or later, an iPhone mounted near your Mac appears as a camera. Pick it from the Camera list here or in your meeting app.
- Check Screen Time. Screen Time > Content & Privacy > Allowed Apps can turn the camera off completely. Make sure Camera is allowed.
- Restart the Mac. If the green light never turns on, restart. If it still fails, run Apple Diagnostics or contact Apple Support.

Camera questions
How do I test my camera on a Mac?
Open this page and press Turn camera on, then allow access. The green light next to your camera turns on and you see your picture with the Zoom or Teams crop. You can also open Photo Booth or FaceTime.
Why is my MacBook camera not working?
Usually your browser or meeting app has not been given camera permission in System Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera. Another app using the camera, or a Screen Time restriction, can also block it.
Can I use my iPhone as a webcam on Mac?
Yes. Continuity Camera works with macOS Ventura and iOS 16 or later. Mount the iPhone near your Mac, and it appears as a camera in your browser and meeting apps.
What resolution is the MacBook camera?
Recent MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models have a 1080p FaceTime HD camera. Some newer models have a 12MP Center Stage camera. Older models are 720p. This page shows your camera's actual resolution.
